Hyacinthus racemosus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 318. 1753.
"Habitat in Europa australi." RCN: 2499.
Lectotype (Stearn in Ann. Mus. Goulandris 8: 208, f. 14. 1990): Hasselquist, Herb. Linn. No. 438.17 (LINN) .
Current name: Muscari neglectum Guss. ( Liliaceae / Hyacinthaceae).
Note: Stearn took the view (l.c.: 206-210) that Muscari racemosum Mill. (1768) is a new name for H. muscari L. (1753), not a new combination based on H. racemosus L. (1753) . Although some had previously rejected Linnaeus’ name as ambiguous, Stearn’s interpretation resulted in M. racemosum Mill, making M. racemosum (L.) Medik. a later homonym. Stearn noted that the type of H. racemosus cannot be identified with certainty - it is very difficult to distinguish M. neglectum Guss, and M. atlanticum Boiss. & Reuter in herbarium material (and some authors treat them as synonymous).
