Hippophae rhamnoides Linnaeus , Species Plantarum 2: 1023. 1753.
"Habitat in Europae maritimis arenosis." RCN: 7408.
Type not designated.
Original material: Herb. Burser XXV: 4 (UPS); [icon] in Mattioli, Pl. Epit.: 81. 1586.
Generitype of Hippophae Linnaeus (vide Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 191. 1929).
Current name: Hippophae rhamnoides L. ( Elaeagnaceae).
Note: Rousi (in Ann. Bot. Fenn. 8: 201-202, f. 14. 1971) designated J. F. Sacklén s.n. [ex Hort. Academ. Upsal.] in S as lectotype (but in reality a neotype). As original material was in existence, this choice is contrary to Art. 9.11. Rousi recognised that Herb. Burser XXV: 4 (UPS) was original material for the name but identified it as subsp. fluviatilis Soest . Hippophae rhamnoides remains untypified at present.
