Type locality and specimens. Vorkommen [Occurrence]: Tunis

Dimensions. ♂ 38–42 mm lang, 3½–3¾ mm breit [length 38–42 mm, width 3.5–3.75 mm], ♀ 43–48 mm lang, 3¼– 4 mm breit [length 43–48 mm, width 3.25–4 mm].

Type material. Syntype (ZMH-A0000651). TUNISIA: Tunis [ca. 36°48N, 10°10’E] .

Preservation. 1 jar: Label 1. Otostigmus tunetanus Verh. Tunis, Verhoeff v. 30.I.1900. Label 2. Otostigmus tunetanus Verhoeff ( O. spinicaudus (Newport)) 1 Ex. Paratypus (imprint: Zoologisches Museum Hamburg).

Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 70, No. 68. Paratype.

Additional remarks. Weidner (1960: 70) noted that the specimen was purchased from Verhoeff and additional syntypes may be present in other museums.

Current systematic position. Otostigmus (Otostigmus) spinicaudus (Newport, 1844); synonymized by Kraepelin (1903: 107).
