Type material. Holotype (ZMH-A0000625). AUSTRALIA: Queensland, Brisbane [27°28’04’’S, 153°01’41’’E].
Preservation. 1 jar: Label. Cormoceph brevispinatus L.K. Typus M.G. Brisbane.
Old type catalogues. Weidner (1960), p. 65, No. 14. Holotype.
Collection remarks. The specimen came from the private Museum Godeffroy in Hamburg and was collected by Amalie Dietrich (1821–1891) in the wider Brisbane area from 1863 to 1864.
Other remarks. Koch misspelled the type locality as Brinsbane (Koch 1867: 249). The original specimen was from a loan made to Koch by curator Eduard Schmeltz from the Museum Godeffroy and the specimen was collected by Amalie Dietrich on behalf of the Godeffroy estate (Koch 1867: 173).
Current systematic position. Junior synonym of Cormocephalus aurantiipes (Newport, 1844) according to Kohlrausch (1881: 88).
