Type locality and specimens. Museum Godeffroy, Hamburg 7 Exemplare.—Fundort [locality]: Himalaya .

Dimensions. Länge des Körpers [body length] 120 [mm], der Endbeine 30 Mm. [length of the ultimate legs 30 mm].

Type material. Syntype (ZMH-A0000640). HIMALAYAS. No additional data [ca. 27°59’N, 86°55’E] .

Preservation. 1 jar and 1 vial. Jar label: Heterostoma rapax Gerv. Original zu H. pygomela Kohlr. Himalaya (pencil). Vial label: Heterostoma pygomega n. sp. Mus God. (31796) Himalaya. (pencil on red paper).

Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 68, No. 51. Holotype.

Type status. The specimens originally belonged to the Museum Godeffroy . Kohlrausch (1879) mentioned seven specimens (which are all syntypes) in his original description but only one specimen is present at the ZMH. “Duplicate” specimens were offered for sale in the catalogues of the private Museum Godeffroy (Appendix 3) and additional syntypes are likely present in other museums .

Current systematic position. Ethmostigmus pygomegas (Kohlrausch, 1879); transferred by Kraepelin (1903: 158).
