Taxonomic remarks. Attems (1930: 221–223) listed Cryptops anomalans var. punicus as a synonym of Cryptops anomalans Newport, 1844 but the taxon had previously been transferred to the genus Trigonocryptops by Brölemann (1928), now a subgenus of Cryptops Leach, 1815, as the species T. punicus .
