Dimensions. Lg. [length] 25–27 mm. Schleppbeine ungefähr 4 mm lang [length of the ultimate legs nearly 4 mm].
Type material. Syntypes 2 (ZMH-A0000673, ZMH-A0009235). PORTUGAL [38°43’N, 9°09’W for Lis- bon] .
Preservation. 1 jar: Label. Opisthemega lusitanum Verh. Verhoeff v. 30.I.1900, Portugal.
Old type catalogue. Weidner (1960), p. 69, No. 55. Paratypes 2.
Type status. Verhoeff (1896) did not specify the number of specimens in his description and the specimens are syntypes.
Nomenclatural remarks. The generic name is female and the correct name is Opisthemega lusitanum Verhoeff, 1896 .
Additional type material. There is a syntype from Portugal at the ZMB (no. 13524) .
Additional remarks. The specimens were purchased from Verhoeff (Weidner 1960: 69).
Current systematic position. Junior synonym of Theatops erythrocephalus (C. L. Koch, 1847) according to Kraepelin (1903: 66–67).
