Atrichobrunettia Satchell, 1953: 413 . Type species: Atrichobrunettia alternata Satchell, 1953, by original designation.

Atrichobrunettia Satchell, Duckhouse, 1991: 986 (as subgenus).

Diagnosis. The species of this genus are characterized by 13 or 14 flagellomeres; first maxillary palp very short (Figs. 10, 35); wings narrow with undeveloped costal and anal areas or, in some species, costal area wider than anal area; Rs pectinate; radial fork situated distal to the medial fork, or, in some species, radial fork in the same position as the medial fork, or, in some Neotropical species, radial fork situated closer to the medial fork; R5 ending at tip; wing membrane with marginal patches of bristles near veins; tergite 9 and gonocoxite without bristles; apex of gonostyle with pair of long bristles; aedeagus symmetrical.
