Distribution. This is the first record from Saudi Arabia. It was described from South Africa and Sudan and is further recorded from other parts of the Afrotropical Region: Eritrea, Ethiopia, Burundi, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zaire (Smith & Vockeroth 1980; Dirickx 1998; Whittington 2003) and Yemen (Smit et al. 2017).
Genus Betasyrphus Matsumura
The genus Betasyrphus has approximately 18 species in the Afrotropical, Palaearctic and Oriental regions. Whittington (2003) in his assessment of the Afrotropical Syrphidae fauna, lists Betasyrphus among the Afrotropical genera in need of revision like most of Syrphidae .
