Current name: Echium creticum L. ( Boraginaceae).

Note: Lacaita (in J. Linn. Soc., Bot. 44: 401. 1919) and Klotz (in Wiss. Z. Martin-Luther-Univ., Halle-Wittenberg, Math.-Naturwiss. Reihe 11: 293. 1962) argued that the name should be rejected as a nomen confusum, but Fernandes (l.c.) has formally typified the name (see extensive discussion and a photograph (pl. 1) of the type). It has been taken up in the sense of E. australe Lam.
