Lectotype (Fosberg & Mazzeo in Castanea 30: 199. 1965): Herb. Linn. No. 630.4 (LINN) .

Current name: Euphorbia hypericifolia L. ( Euphorbiaceae).

Note: Fosberg & Mazzeo (in Castanea 30: 199. 1965) agree with Stearn’s argument (in litt. to Wheeler, 1960) that 630.4 (LINN) is the type of this name (and not of E. maculata L., as believed by Wheeler (in Contr. Gray Herb. 127: 76. 1939) and Fosberg (in Rhodora 48: 199-200. 1946; 55: 241-242. 1953). Wheeler had incorrectly treated 630.3 (LINN), a Browne collection not received by Linnaeus until 1758, as the type. Fosberg & Mazzeo clearly treated 630.4 as the type themselves, pre-dating the choice of a Sloane plate made by Burch (in Rhodora 68: 162. 1966).
