3. Ponera truncata HNS.
P. nigra; antennis, mandibulis, pedibus, abdominisque apice ferrugineis.
Female. Length lines. Black; the clypeus, antennæ, mandibles, legs, the apex of the metathorax and of the abdomen ferruginous; the eyes placed forward at the sides of the head, near the base of the mandibles; the head, thorax, and abdomen thinly covered with a fine, short, downy pile, which venders the body sub-opake; the truncated portion of the metathorax very smooth and shining; the mesothorax with an obseute rufous tinge. The apical margins of the two basal segments of the abdomen rufo-testaceous, the following segments entirely so.
