Type data: This species was described from a single male collected by Schulthess (probably the Swiss medical and entomologist Anton von Schulthess-Rechberg (1855‒1941)) in Jundiaí, southeastern Brazil. The holotype is housed at ZMB and it has the following data label: Brasil Jundiahy 1899 [printed]\ Centris scopipes Fr. ♂ [handwritten] 1910 Friese det. [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed] (ZMB) .

Type locality: Brazil: São Paulo state: Jundiaí (“Jundiahy”) .

Comment: This is one of the most common species of the subgenus C. (Ptilotopus) with distribution records in the Brazilian states of Distrito Federal, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, and São Paulo (Moure et al. 2007).
