Centris niveofasciata Friese, 1899
Centris niveofasciata Friese, 1899: 48 .
Type data: In the original description Friese (1899) mentioned “one specimen from Venezuela (St. Parime); one female at ZMB ”. It is not clear if he was talking about two females, one of them without provenance label or only a single female from Venezuela housed in that collection. Apparently, the second option is the right, because a female from that country with original Friese’s label was found in that collection. If my interpretation is correct, C. niveofasciata was described from a single specimen (holotype) and not from a type series as interpreted by Moure (1969) who designated that specimen as the lectotype. The holotype has the following data label: Venezuela St. Parime 1897 [printed]\ Centris niveofasciata Fr. ♀ [handwritten] 1910 Friese det. [printed]\ Coll. Friese [printed]\ [red label] Type [printed] (ZMB).
Type locality: Venezuela: Amazonas state: Sierra de Parima (“ St. Parime ”) .
Comments: This species is easily identifiable by the bluish metallic metasoma with white pubescence on the posterior margin of terga and sterna, as well as by the yellow hairs with black tips on mesoscutum, mesoscutellum and vertex. This species was correctly interpreted by Moure (1969).
