Centris breviceps Friese, 1899: 44 . Junior synonym of C. vittata Lepeletier, 1841 (Michener 1954) .
Type data: Friese proposed this species based on an undetermined number of male and female specimens collected by the German explorer, insect trader and entomologist Hans Fruhstorfer (1866–1922) in the Brazilian states of Amazonas and Minas Gerais. A single male collected in this latter state was found at ZMB, being here designated the lectotype. Vivallo, 2017 [printed] (ZMB). The current condition of the paralectotypes is unknown.
Type locality: Brazil: Minas Gerais state (“Minas Geraës”) .
Comments: Both sexes have the pubescence on the dorsal surface of the mesosoma and on vertex with conspicuous black tips and the clypeus broadly and deeply depressed across lower half of the disc. This species was correctly interpreted by Snelling (1984) and Moure et al. (2007).
