Centris obsoleta pleuralis Friese, 1901

Centris obsoleta var. pleuralis Friese, 1901: 272 . Junior synonym of C. obsoleta Lepeletier, 1841 (Rasmussen & Vivallo 2014).

Type data: Friese (1901) described this species as a variety of C. obsoleta, based on two females collected in Piauí (“Piauchy”) state, northeastern Brazil. Of these specimens only one is currently housed at HNHM and it was designated as the lectotype by Rasmussen & Vivallo (2014). The specimen has the following data label: [black rimmed label] 848 87 [handwritten]\ Piauchy Brasilia [handwritten]\ [light green label] 28. [handwritten]\ C. obsoleta v. pleuralis Mocs. ♀ [handwritten] det. Friese 1898 [printed]\ [red label] Lectotype Centris obsoleta pleuralis Friese, 1901 design. Rasmussen & Vivallo [printed] (HNHM).

Type locality: Brazil: Piauí state (“Piauchy”) .

Comment: Moure et al. (2007) mentioned erroneously the existence of a holotype of this species.
