General distribution: Circumglobal in tropical seas, but not in eastern Pacific.

Red Sea main basin: Egypt (Klunzinger 1871, as Exocoetus gryllus), Sudan (Botros 1971, as Exocoetus gryllus). General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Marshall Islands and Fiji.
