Material examined. Lectotype of Hymenicus cookii Filhol, 1885, herein designated, New Zealand, Détroit de Cook (Cook Strait), MNHN IU- 2014 -7143 (B32572), (female, 6.1 mm).

Paralectotype. Same locality, MNHN IU- 2000 - 1100 (B 1100) (female, 5.3 mm, dry).

Other material. New Zealand, Wellington, NMV J7374 (10 males and females).

Distribution. Throughout New Zealand except its subantarctic islands (Melrose 1975).

Remarks. Types of this New Zealand endemic were found at MNHN and a lectotype is selected herein.
