Genus Piciformobia Gaud & Atyeo, 1975

Type species: Piciformobia tetracanthura Gaud & Atyeo, 1975, by original designation.

The genus Piciformobia is currently composed of six species, including the new one described below, occurring on birds of the families Cuculidae, Galbulidae and Troglodytidae in the New World (Gaud & Atyeo 1975, Alzuet et al. 1988, Mironov et al. 2014): P. ani (Černý, 1975) from Crotophaga ani Linnaeus, 1758, P. guirae Alzuet et al., 1988 from Guira guira (Gmelin, 1788) ( Cuculiformes: Cuculidae), P. tetracanthura Gaud & Atyeo, 1975 from Galbula cyanescens Deville, 1849 ( Galbuliformes: Galbulidae), P. henicorhinae Mironov et al., 2014 from Henicorhina leucosticta (Cabanis, 1847), and P. cinnycerthiae Mironov et al., 2014 from Cinnycerthia unirufa (Lafresnaye, 1840) ( Passeriformes: Troglodytidae). The new mite described herein represents the second species of this genus living on the Guira Cuckoo, G. guira .
