Trypodendron lineatum (Olivier, 1795)

Distribution in Iran. West Azarbaijan (Samin et al. 2011 as Xyloterus lineatus).

General distribution. Europe, North Africa, Middle East, through Russia and central Asia to China, Korea, Japan, Canada, USA.

Biology. This species normally breeds in conifers of the family Pinaceae ( Abies, Cedrus, Larix, Picea, Pinus, Pseudotsuga, Tsuga), and less often Cupressaceae (Thuja) (Schedl 1951; Wood 1957; Pfeffer 1995). No hosts have been recorded in Iran. The biology and ecology have been studied in Europe by Chararas (1962) and Popo and Thalenhorst (1974a), and the population dynamics by Popo and Thalenhorst (1974b). The species usually attacks dead or dying trees, but the galleries and associated fungal staining can cause extensive economic loss through downgrading of the timber (Chararas 1962; Smith & Hulcr 2015).
