Scolytus confusus Eggers, 1922
This species was recorded in Iran from Guilan, Mazandaran, central, northern, southern and western provinces by Modarres Awal (1997) from unspecified forest trees and ‘ Rosaceae fruit trees’. The species is considered to be a synonym of Scolytus japonicus Chapuis, 1875 by Wood and Bright (1992), and Knížek (2011). It is recorded only from North and Northeast China, Korea, Mongolia, and Far East Russia (Wood & Bright 1992). The very wide geographical separation of these areas from Iran, and the difficulty of identifying some species of Scolytus, suggest that the species may have been misidentified.
