Hypothenemus crudiae (Panzer, 1791)

Material examined. East Azarbaijan province, Maragheh, 37°23′N 46°24′E, 1♀, 12.ix.2011. New record for Iran. General distribution. Circumtropical and subtropical. Probably of American origin (Wood 2007), but widely spread through human activity.

Biology. Like most species of Hypothenemus, the species is polyphagous, attacking a wide range of trees and shrubs (Vega et al. 2015). It breeds not only in twigs and small branches, but also in seedpods, seeds and fruits (Wood 2007). The new Iranian record is from Corylus avellana (Betulaceae) .
