Orthotomicus suturalis (Gyllenhal, 1827)
Distribution in Iran. Guilan (Samin et al. 2011).
General distribution. Throughout Europe, Azerbaijan, Israel, Kazakhstan, Turkey, through Russia to northern China, Korea, Japan.
Biology. The species breeds primarily in Pinus and Picea, less frequently in Larix and Abies (Pinaceae) . Recorded in Iran from Pinus sylvestris (Samin et al. 2011) . The biology and gallery system are described by Chararas (1962). Balachowsky (1949) and Yanovskij (1999) note outbreaks of the species in fire-damaged forests, but the species is not known to attack healthy trees.
