Orthotomicus proximus (Eichhoff, 1867)

Distribution in Iran. East Azarbaijan (Samin et al. 2011).

General distribution. Europe, Algeria, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Turkey, through Russia to northern China, Korea, Japan.

Biology. The species usually breeds in species of Pinus and Picea, occasionally in Abies and Larix (Pinaceae) (Stark 1952). Recorded in Iran from Cedrus libani (Pinaceae) (Samin et al. 2011). This is the first record from Cedrus, and the presence of the species in Iran needs confirmation. The biology and gallery system are described by Stark (1952) and Chararas (1962).
