Canthidium gracilipes Harold, 1867b: 69 [here transferred to the subgenus Canthidium]. Type locality: French Guiana (“Cayenne”). Type material: Unknown number of syntypes (MNHN—ex Bonvouloir collection; ZMHB). Distribution: French Guiana (Harold 1867b, 1869a) [contrary to Harold (1867b, 1869a), who explicitly stated that C. gracilipes occurred in Cayenne, Gillet (1911) modified this information and cited Guyana (therefore, the former British Guiana) as the distribution range of this species, in which he was followed by both Blackwelder (1944) and Martínez & Halffter (1986a). Here I decided to follow Harold’s (1867b, 1869a) original report since no evidence was presented by Gillet (1911), Blackwelder (1944), nor Martínez & Halffter (1986a) demonstrating it is incorrect].
