Canthidium aterrimum Harold, 1867
Canthidium aterrimum Harold, 1867a: 40 . Type locality: Brazil (“ Brasilien ”). Type material: Unknown number of syntypes (ZSMC). Distribution: Brazil (?) (Harold 1867a) [for some unknown reason, Harold (1869a) modified the originally cited distribution of C. aterrimum to Cayenne. This was modified to “ Guyana ” by Gillet (1911) and then followed as “ Guiana ” by Blackwelder (1944). Although Vaz-de-Mello (2000) has not included C. aterrimum in his list of the Brazilian dung beetles, I chose to follow Harold’s (1867a) original type locality and see the later report from Cayenne as a probable lapse committed by Harold (1869a) that was not corrected by any of the subsequent authors].
