Diagnosis. Antenna short but reaching first chaetiger (inserted on posterior half of prostomium). Secondary ciliary organs present. Three prebranchial segments. Branchiae numbering up to 23 pairs; with rounded tips. Modified notochaetae absent. Neuropodial capillaries not thicker than notopodial ones. Modified neurochaetae without terminal spine and with tip strongly curved and bearing hood.
Distribution. Mediterranean (Laubier 1966; Campoy 1981). Eastern Atlantic, from Øresund and Skagerrak (Kirkegaard 1996) and Norway (Rygg 2002) to Portugal (Pardal et al. 1992). Western Atlantic, from North Carolina (Day 1973) to the Caribbean (Díaz-Díaz et al. 2009).
