Ranunculus asiaticus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 552. 1753.
"Habitat in Asia vel Mauritania." RCN: 4079.
Lectotype (Turland in Jarvis & al. in Taxon 54: 470. 2005): Herb. Linn. No. 715.34 (LINN) .
Current name: Ranunculus asiaticus L. ( Ranunculaceae).
Note: Meikle (in Curtis’s Bot. Mag. 181: 159-162. 1977) discussed the history of this name but did not indicate any type material. However, he (Fl. Cyprus 1: 50. 1977) separately indicated type material at LINN without specifying a sheet number, but adding that it is "a double-flowered garden form, probably with red flowers". As there are two sheets at LINN, a formal choice of lectotype was made by Turland to remove any uncertainty as to the intended type.
