Subgenus Myloechus Latreille

Myloechus Latreille, 1806: 30 (as genus).

Type species: Myloechus brunneus Latreille (monotypy).

As subgenus in

Erichson (1845: 1) and Chaudoir (1845: 202 —not explicitly, but using the type species of Myloechus under

Colon); status change probably before that; but Thomson (1862: 73) still used it at genus level. Fowler (1889)

seems be the first to use Myloechus at a subgenus ranking, dividing the genus Colon into two subgenera. = Myloecus Agassiz, 1846: 242 (unjustified emendation of Myloechus). Note: North American species revised in Peck & Stephan (1996). Note: Peck & Stephan (1996) proposed a system of species groups for this subgenus.

Key: to species in Peck & Stephan, 1996: 704; and to species of Chile in Salgado, 2017b: 84.

Distribution: Holarctic, to Mexico and southern parts of Oriental Region, Africa (77 spp.).
