Genus Eucatops Portevin
Eucatops Portevin, 1903a: 162; Jeannel, 1936: 46 (redescription). Type species: Eucatops curvipes Portevin (5 species in original description, all as “new”— curvipes, ater, grouvellei, rufescens, oblongus); des. in Jeannel, 1922: 39 (not stated as taxonomic change).
Distribution: Neotropical. Note: One undetermined (?undescribed) species (subgenus Eucatops) from Tobago Island (of Trinidad and Tobago) (Peck et al., 2002: 12); Salgado (2003b: 58) “describes” an undetermined species (in subgenus Eucatops) based on 2 females from Ecuador (it might have been described afterwards, because Salgado described species from the same locality, but no further reference to this material was made by that author).
Biology: Carrion scavenger in forests; some species seemingly are in ant nests.
