Caatinga endemic species. It is known only from the type-locality, Santo Inácio village in municipality of Gentio do Ouro, Bahia State. The area has 475 m elevation. It has a restricted distribution on sandy dunes of the right bank of the São Francisco, covered with herbaceous and bushy caatinga on sandy soils (Rodrigues 1993). It has fossorial and psamophylous habits, is diurnal and nocturnal, and feeds on lizards (Rodrigues 1993).
