Type locality: Mediterranean Sea.

Occurrence: restricted to the Mediterranean Sea (Mortensen 1943a).
Depth: 4–100 m (Tortonese 1965).
Habitat: on rocky substrates and Posidonia prairies to muddy substrates where it feeds on animal matter (Mortensen 1943a).
Larval stage: planktotrophic (Emlet 1995).
