Lichen hirtus Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1155. 1753, nom. cons.

"Habitat in Europae arboribus, sepimentis." RCN: 8253.

Conserved type ( Jørgensen & al. in Taxon 43: 652. 1994): Sweden. Fries, Lieh. Suec. Exsicc. No. 150 (UPS).

Current name: Usnea hirta (L.) Weber ex F.H. Wigg. ( Parmeliaceae).

Note: See review by Jørgensen & al. (in Bot. J. Linn. Soc. 115: 320-322, 377, f. 37. 1994), who concluded that the only original elements (those of Dillenius) belong to various species of Usnea, but none of them to U. hirta . The same authors successfully proposed the name for conservation with a conserved type.
