Widely distributed in tropical America, from Trinidad to Bolivia and Brazil where it is found in the North and Northeast regions (Landrum 1986, Govaerts et al. 2010, Sobral et al. 2010).
Trees ca. 6 m tall. This species differs from species of Psidium by the unconstricted ovary and differs from Campomanesia dichotoma by having solitary opposite flowers, a glabrous hypanthium and bracts elliptic.
