Endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Sobral et al. 2009) from the Northeast to Southeast regions of Brazil (Govaerts et al. 2010, Proença & Sobral 2006).
Trees 3–7 m tall, leaves 10.5–27.0 × 5.5–7.5 cm, midvein flat or raised on adaxial lamina surface, raceme with the main axes reduced, bracts linear-lanceolate, bracteoles rotund-lanceolate, hypanthium glabrous, fruit ellipsoid and verrucose with seeds ellipsoid and maculate.
