23. Myrcia multiflora (Lam.) De Candolle (1828: 244); Legrand & Klein (1969b: 300–304) [Fig. 3R; Fig. 6D]

Occurs from Trinidad to Uruguay (Govaerts et al. 2010) and is widely distributed in Brazil (Sobral et al. 2010).

Trees and shrubs 3–5 m tall. This species differs from other Myrcia species by leaves 5–7 × 2.5 –3.5 cm, a flat or raised midvein on the adaxial lamina surface, acuminate and unequal calyx lobes, 4 larger (2 mm long), 1 shorter (1 mm long), a glabrous hypanthium and globose fruit.
