22. Myrcia insularis Gardner (1842: 536) [Fig. 3Q]
Endemic to the Atlantic Forest (Sobral et al. 2009) from the Northeastern to Southern regions of Brazil (Sobral et al. 2010). In the Northeast, it occurs in the States of Bahia (Sobral et al. 2010). New records of this species for State of Pernambuco are presented here.
Trees 8–10 m tall. This species differs from other Myrcia species by having leaves 10.5–12.0 × 3.5–4.5 cm, a flat or raised midvein on the adaxial lamina surface, lanceolate bracts, linear bracteoles, acute and unequal calyx lobes, 2 larger (2 mm long), 3 shorter (1 mm long), a glabrous hypanthium and subglobose fruit.
