Monarda didyma Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 22. 1753.
"Habitat in Pensilvania, Noveboraco." RCN: 177.
Lectotype (Wijnands, Bot. Commelins: 117. 1983): Herb. Linn. No. 40.3 (LINN) .
Current name: Monarda didyma L. ( Lamiaceae).
Note: Epling (in J. Bot. 67: 4. 1929) noted material at LINN but did not designate a type. McClintock & Epling (in Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot. 20: 158. 1942) treated material in the Linnaean herbarium as "the standard" (not the same as a type) and Scora (in Univ. Calif. Publ. Bot. 41: 31. 1967) suggested that this "may be taken as the type". Wijnands appears to have been the first to make an unequivocal type designation.
