Montia fontana Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 87. 1753.

"Habitat in Europa ad scaturigines." RCN: 735.

Lectotype (Jonsell & Jarvis in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 67. 1993): Herb. Linn. No. 57 (LAPP) .

Generitype of Montia Linnaeus.

Current name: Montia fontana L. ( Portulacaceae).

Note: Walters (in Watsonia 3: 2. 1953), followed by Hedberg (in Symb. Bot. Upsal. 15(1): 38. 1957) and Pedersen (in Bot. Tidsskr. 63: 369. 1968), referred to the type subspecies as being "the plant of the Linnaean herbarium" but this fails to distinguish between sheets 106.1 and 106.2 (LINN) and is therefore ineffective. The two collections do not appear to be part of a single gathering so Art. 9.15 does not apply. Jonsell & Jarvis designated material from Lapland as the lectotype (see further discussion by them in Nordic J. Bot. 14: 155. 1994).
