Mimosa peregrina Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 1: 520. 1753.
"Habitat in America." RCN: 7677.
Neotype (Rico in Turland & Jarvis in Taxon 46: 476. 1997): Guyana. 1839, Schomburgk 866 [sheet No. 1] (BM; iso- BM).
Current name: Anadenanthera peregrina (L.) Speg. ( Fabaceae: Mimosoideae).
Note: There may once have been a specimen in the Clifford herbarium (BM), but no relevant material can be traced. Such a sheet was indicated as the lectotype by Reis Altschul (in Contr. Gray Herb. 193: 46. 1964), who noted its apparent absence in 1957, and by Howard (Fl. Lesser Antilles 4: 348. 1988) as "Hort. Cliff. 109" (in error for p. 209). In the absence of any original material, Rico designated a neotype.
