Syntype: ZMB 6065 (Lichtenstein 1832, Nr. 35, 36, 37 or 38 sub “ Fringilla ”), skin, ad., collected by Meyen in “ Februar ” or “ Maerz ” [= 27 Jan–24 Feb 1831; see below] in “ Chile ” [= Santiago, Metropolitan Region, Chile; see below].
Syntype: ZMB 6066 (Lichtenstein 1832, Nr. 35, 36, 37 or 38 sub “ Fringilla ”), mount, ad., collected by Meyen in “Februar” or “Maerz” [= 27 Jan–24 Feb 1831; see below] in “ Chile ” [= Santiago, Metropolitan Region, Chile; see below]. The Inventory Catalogue of the ZMB bears the following inscription “ Fr. chilensis, Chile, Meyen Coll.”.
Type locality. Meyen (1834a: 88) mentioned only “ Santiago de Chile ” as a place where he met this species. He worked there, with short interruptions, from 27 January to 24 February 1831. The type locality is thus Santiago, Metropolitan Region, Chile [33.45°S, 70.67°W] .
