Status at New Ireland. First recorded from New Ireland by White et al. (2018: 289), White & Ko'ou (2018: 68), based on a specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 4 Mar. 2008 and 6 July 2008, at 16 m depth by Dean Tully on 8 July 2011, and by D. Borcherds.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East and South Africa east to Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, south to northern Australia. Pelagic, mainly in coastal waters, often seen in small groups, 0–30 m depth. Marine.
