Status at New Ireland. Originally described from southern New Ireland by Müller & Henle (1841: 174) as Urolophus armatus, based on MNHN 2331 (holotype).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 3.—General distribution: Endemic to New Ireland; known only from holotype. Marine.
