Heteroconger hassi (Klausewitz & Eibl-Eibesfeldt 1959) — Spotted garden eel, Hass' garden eel

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island, Kavieng District, by Dean Tully at 7 m depth on 4 July 2011, and at 20 m depth on 23 Sept. 2012.

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: East Africa and Mascarenes east to Wake Atoll, Tonga, Samoa and Line Islands, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to northwestern Australia, Queensland (Australia) and New Caledonia. Found on sand bottoms, 1–45 m depth. Marine.
