Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market in 2004–2005 by Jeff Kinch during CFMDP Survey.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Schooling inshore, estuaries, 0–120 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
