Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa and Mascarenes east to Caroline and Mariana islands, Samoa and Tonga, north to Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia) at 16°30'S, and New Caledonia. Pelagic in coastal waters near reefs, and in estuaries, 0–50 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
