Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a specimen photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 4 Mar. 2008, and at 6 m depth by Dean Tully on 22 June 2013 ; another photographed at St. KVG24 (off northwestern Bauddisson Island) by Serge Andréfouët on 22 Aug. 2014 .
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa and Mozambique Channel east to Hawaiian Islands, Pitcairn Group and Cocos Island, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara islands, south to Western Australia and New Caledonia. Found in crevices in lagoon and seaward reefs; juveniles on the intertidal reef flat, 0–50 m depth. Marine.
