Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken in Albatross Passage, southwestern Kavieng District at 3–13 m depth, St. KD83, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East and South Africa, Seychelles, Madagascar and Mascarenes east to Hawaiian Islands and Pitcairn Group, north to Ryukyu Islands and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia and New Caledonia. Found solitary on sand or silt bottoms near protected reefs, 1–135 m depth. Marine.
