Synodus oculeus Cressey 1981 — Large-eye lizardfish

Status at New Ireland. New record from New Hanover, based on a NTUM material (2 specimens, St. CP 4418-22- 23, northeast of New Hanover).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1.—General distribution: Indo-West Pacific: Madagascar east to Philippines and New Guinea, north to southern Japan, south to eastern Australia and New Caledonia. Found on sand or sand-rubble areas of the lower continental and insular shelf and upper slope, 44–335 m depth. Marine.
