Plotosus lineatus (Thunberg 1787) — Striped catfish, striped eel catfish (Fig. 15)
Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 10 May 2009.
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea, East Africa and Algoa Bay (South Africa) east to Samoa and Tonga, north to southern Korea, southern Japan and Ogasawara Islands, south to Western Australia at 32°S and Lord Howe Island. Found in coral reefs; also in estuaries, tidal pools and on open coasts, 1– 60 m depth. Transitional water and marine.
